Successful Conduit as To How to Promote Your Music

January 25th, 2010

MySpace and its ilk act as a one-stop band advert where one can upload anything desired: photos, songs, video, text and more. One should limit himself to two or three social networks though – he doesn’t want to spread himself too thinly. As good as MySpace and its mates are, having their own website too looks more professional. Websites are cheap to host and easy to build so there are no excuses. It should be remembered to be updated it as often as the social network profile though. It should be ensured that regular updates and news stories are posted. New photos are added frequently and generally the profile should be kept looking busy. That way one will be seen as a serious, enthusiastic, up-and-coming act. Regular profile/website updates will also keep things interesting for returning fans. An artist biog should be concise, informative and interesting. People don’t want to know that the band was formed “in the first year of university by songwriter Joe Bloggs and producer John Smith” – cut out the background and write something that’s a bit different. Top-notch imagery is crucial if desiring to be noticed online. One must try to present a uniform ‘look’ that fits with the music.

There are plenty of aspiring photographers about who will be willing to take press or live photos and/ or the band for little or no money. They should be taken advantage of. If being an independent act, the goal should be to get the music heard as much as possible. One should be aware that people are much more inclined to listen if he offers the occasional track for free. If it is decided not to give away the music then at least the streaming full-length versions of your tracks should be offered rather than short clips. Networking with other artists and bands by keeping in regular contact and giving feedback on their music means one is likely to find gig partners and be asked to play support slots. Musicians are also generally more interested as fans when it comes to independent music. Replying to mails and friend requests can sometimes be a chore but one must try to avoid blanket “thanks for the add” messages. If things are kept personal one is far more likely to be remembered and if the audience likes him, they’ll be predisposed to like his music.

While it’s important to keep in touch with fans, repeated spam is annoying, so it is pretty important to reserve mass messaging for special events. It’s far more effective to tailor the messages and gig invites to individuals or small groups of people – there’s no point telling someone from Land’s End that one’s gigging in Dundee. It can be tempting to add every person coming across, but when it comes to MySpace, high profile views is what makes everyone look good and not the friend count. It should be ensured to add only valuable friends who will like the music and visit the profile. The sad truth is that the quality of the music won’t always be enough to get one noticed. One must try doing a blog, a quiz, a gimmick – anything that will make his website or profile a bit different and interesting.

Urban News Whats Going On

January 24th, 2010

Human beings are curious little creatures. They need to know everything, whether it concerns them or not. We just can’t keep our noses out of anything that smells a little fishy and even if it doesn’t. Where earlier men relied on the grapevine and the word of mouth, most of what they got was distorted and unreal. Though that gossip era had its own charm, the increase in the reliability of information is quite appeasing. With the improvement in technology we have various sources of information that we can count upon.

We started with the newspaper and then advanced to radio and then to television. All these were the new age avatars that were full of interesting information and entertainment. Newspapers brought out juicy scandals that urged us to talk about them for hours, days, weeks and months together. With radio we had sound added to all the information. It became much easier to rely on spoken words rather than on written ones. Also with the radio we had MUSIC- A delight, a source of never ending joy, a companion to those who were ever lonely.

Television added a third dimension to the human entertainment and rather this one was most important by far- vision. Now when we could actually see who is telling us what, it was way easier to trust them and what they said. And the BAM- the INTERNET!! The insatiable thirst of human brain was never tickled as much before. An entire ocean of knowledge was now there in front of him waiting to be explored. He could get anything that he could ever want to know- online black news videos, latest breaking news, world news videos, urban lifestyle videos, African American News, Black Videos everything was at his command. He could now use this amazing potential to discover all that he dreamed of.

Independent Labels Real Headhunters

January 24th, 2010

Few are those who can work in a very competitive field as is that of record and are essentially two categories: those who are very lucky and participated in talent shows and who is very tough and after great sacrifice, effort, and especially after a long ranks of playing in small clubs can publish your album and put forward their talents on everything.

Apart from the first that already have a reputation thanks to television diffusion, the success obtained by the latter is definitely more difficult but more satisfying on a personal level. Not only because those who make a long apprenticeship in most cases also composes his own songs and can play at least one instrument, but because you get the reputation still “genuine” without having been victims of reality or the invasiveness of the cameras but also with a greater awareness than those who are at an early age to deal with criticism. This is not a severe criticism on the talent or the ability of young people who rely on the complexity of the TV world is certain that your TV gives immediate visibility that can change the lifestyle of a person in a few weeks, things that the long do not mess’.

Surely the first step, if you do not intend, or do not have time to participate in a talent show, is to lean on independent record label that will affect pay their demo to use as a business card. There are also many local competitions that is giving away recording a demo, so you must always be informed and aware of the various initiatives in circulation. An independent label is essentially a music production house that does not rely on other industries, this means lower costs of engraving and nearly total control of its production by the artist himself. That’s why many artists born from these labels that can ensure greater expressiveness.
The concept of the historically independent label links to all those musical genres at their beginning had nothing to do with the music scene that grew and expanded, are a striking example of musical genres such as grunge, punk, glam recently celebrated their birth, but reassessed as they gained the consent of the public. Currently looking for more genres that independent productions are hip hop and Motown.

A big blow was given to independent labels with the spread of online music stores but they were able to stand up, even if lame, and evolve according to contemporary technologies. Many are in fact the label “indie” that can be found in department stores and online companies offering artists always very innovative, which will undoubtedly hear in the future.

Musical Tuition And Its Benefits For All Ages

January 23rd, 2010

Learning to play a musical instrument is a very rewarding and fun activity, regardless of age. Lately there has been a growing trend of children preferring to play the guitar over more classical instruments. For many years, the piano has always been the main player in the word of music, so why is it now that so many young children are picking up the guitar? For one example in Edinburgh, Morningside School of Music have reported a rise of 63% in children and adults who wish to have guitar lessons.

Some may put it down to the media. Most children would love to be one of the Disney posters like Miley Cyrus or Demi Levato, many youngsters are looking at the guitar as their chosen hobby rather than dancing, football, swimming or basketball. Surely anything that encourages children away from sitting in front of a Nintendo all day must be a good thing? This is especially true during the winter months, when play outside can be disrupted and children need a different form of creative output.

Research has shown that children who learn a musical instrument perform better in other academic subjects such as maths and English, so there is clearly more to strumming a few chords than meets the eye. Good technique right from the start allows the child’s skill to develop quickly and correctly, ensuring that their potential is reached and improvement continues. The proper tutelage allows for anyone to earn great satisfaction in playing their instrument of choice.

All the teachers at Morningside School of Music who offer Edinburgh Guitar Lessons are fully qualified and enhanced disclosed and have played with some of the biggest names in the industry as well as lectured at various universities. Tutors who want to work at the school have to have a perfect past record of tuition excellence in the field of music.

January 22nd, 2010

Taylor Swift made a terrific new year start with her latest album “Speak Now” reaching at the number one spot at the Billboard 200 chart. But all does not sound well when we look at the personal life of the “You Belong with Me” singer. Taylor, 21 became the headline news in last November when she was reported dating Jake Gyllenhaal, 30 on various occasions. According to news Jake even introduced Taylor to his sister. However People magazine reported on January 4 that the couple has ended their just two months old relationship leaving their fans kept guessing what actually went wrong. The cute couple was last seen in public on December 9 while calling it off before New Year Eve. Both stars appeared for their New Year celebrations separately, Swift in Nashville and Gyllenhaal in New York.
According to media reports, it was Jake who lost interest in the relationship as he was not happy with all the media attention about their relationship status. According to inside news Jake wanted to keep his personal life private and it was hard to keep personal secretes as secrets while dating Taylor who is always a Paparazzi focus to capture every movement of the singer to make it a breaking news. Their 2 months old relationship made news out of over coffee meetings and Taylor’s Thanks Giving day out with Jake but many doubt that their brief affair was just a publicity stunt and the couple was not as serious, as passionate as they pretend while camera eyes were on them.
Taylor who turned 22 in December last year has a long path to cover and already set high aims for 2011 that she wants to amuse her fans with more music and a highly anticipated world tour. Listen to Music Online Alive

January 22nd, 2010

As I get to know more about MOA (Music Online Alive), which is a platform for artistes from the world of music not just to be able to independently create market and distribute their virtual albums online, but even interact with their fans and fellow artistes, I discover that my journey is endless.

It’s like an artist lets loose his canvas midway through his journey to an ocean of enthusiasts and other better or worse peers, to have a go at walking some distance with him. Or then a film maker putting up half his film shot and loosely edited online and inviting whoever wishes to, to jump into the process with him/her to take the story further. If you are an artiste as secure with his craft as Peter Saltzman is as a pianist, then you can let float an idea online, and enjoy while others take it from one level to another, as you take the same idea, through your own interpretation.

Man, the world is getting closer than I thought and art can now be, not just experienced collectively, but even created collectively by varied people from different corners of the world without them even having met each other.
As I revel in the possibility as an artiste myself, who can’t wait to release an idea in my head online, and create one piece of fiction while people I don’t know, but who may be interested, take the same story I am writing forward, in different forms and styles, I choose to chat with Peter, who I find on Skype almost immediately after the thought crosses my mind.
I want to know what Piano Diaries, his blog, on MOA is about. And you can read his answer in an American accent, as I reproduce it verbatim for you here.
“The inspiration for Piano Diaries… umm… ah! well, actually, the very first album I thought of, for MOA, the virtual album platform, when we were developing it was Piano Diaries… and it was even in my prototypes of images which I developed and we did an early alpha prototype back in 2008 before I met all the people in India…” (he takes a long pause)… “and that was the very first album… and the idea is that, unlike a conventional album, or CD… the virtual album is of course a dynamic ongoing album, and the obvious candidate for that from my standpoint, as a musician, composer and pianist, and singer, songwriter was Piano Diaries, like a Piano Blog… that I could just add entries to, whenever I felt like it… I think ideally on a daily basis, in reality that does not happen…. but the entries are essentially all improvised, kind of whats on my mind… musically that day, and I then, try to tie in some little pithy remark about that… sometimes there’s some connection going through my mind with the music and I put that down in the track notes, so, it’s really like a piano diary… its just… not structured, not planned… just kind of what goes on in my head musically on any given day… and thats the history behind it…”
Peter, the founder and CEO of Music Online Alive smiles as he relaxes back in his chair and continues, “now… interesting thing is, I believe that this is a really a great prototype for MOA, not only from artistic, but a commercial standpoint, and I think artists need to think about… you know… in a dynamic format like the web… where things are constantly being reinvented… redone… what can you do with it? What can you to with a format which is not static like the CD and the LP… but can grow all the time?… And this is just one idea… I’m sure a guitarist could do the same thing, or a songwriter could put down short songs everyday… different kinds of things that you could rethink the formats that you could put your music in, in as dynamic a format as the web…” he trails on… and leaves me thinking of the painters, writers, film makers, singers and creative people from all forms of performing and non performing arts who are missing out on so much because none of us has a Peter who has actually put together Music Online Alive for musicians, composers, songwriters from all over the world to experience what it is like to play with people who love their art as much as they do, and a fan base which appreciates it as well. What Makes a Good Club DJ

January 22nd, 2010

A good club DJ is one who has the ability to attract more and more crowds to the club. A good club DJ can do this by presenting his/her best music on the dance floor. If you simply play the old music every time, nobody will admire you and you will lose the charm. You have to add something new for your customers each time they come to hear you. People visit night clubs to entertain themselves and to hear something that they have not heard before. Listening to the same music each time will make them bored and they will shift to another club. If you have an ability to add something new to the music, definitely it will attract more and more people. You should try to present something original and do not try to copy it from anybody. People do not like copy cats, they like to listen to the original music that puts them in the mood to dance.

A good club DJ is one who makes people dance and energize their body with music. A good club DJ plays the music for his/her customers and not for himself or herself. You should communicate well with your customers so that they realize that you are playing music for them and it is not a personal performance. You have to forget everything about yourself when you are performing for the dance floor and it is your foremost responsibility to communicate with your customers and make them feel happy. A good club DJ should accept and play the request of customers if they will work. Some request can just “kill the dance floor” so you cannot play those songs.

You should know the tastes of your customers and you should work according to their tastes. Different customers are present in the clubs but you have to be careful to know the interests of all your fans. You can make your fans dance if you present a different style of music in an original way
